This is an intensive compressed full time course of study primarily based on the first 9 weeks of the 18 week course with tighter dead lines and generally much longer days. Weekends and after hours become a valuable asset and in most cases a necessity.
The course structure provides the learning environment for students to take their first steps toward a career in the screen arts. Students having completed this course, will have written, filmed and directed two short film narratives and a music clip.
This is a course which gives graduates a foundational path toward further training for a career in the film and television industry.

| Course Notes & Entry Criteria |
1. This is a number dependant course. If insufficient numbers enroll the course will not go ahead;
2. Notification of course cancellation will be issued 14 days prior to the course start, however where ever possible management will advise students sooner;
3. If course cancelled applicants have the option to enter the next available 6 week intensive course or enter the next available first 9 weeks of the 18 week course. Written notification by applicant to NZFA required to implement this option;
4. Acceptance for all students is subject to a successful interview and at management's discretion;
5. Availability of positions is limited. Payment of deposit is required to secure an offer of place on the course;
6. All fees to be paid in full or arrangements made for payment prior to the start date of selected course;
7. All applicants (native English speakers excluded) require at least intermediate level English. Students must meet the required Edenz internal ESC Test level (5.0) OR provide a current TOEFL (475) or IELTS (5.0) test result;
8. The official New Zealand Film Academy Application Form must be completed and returned signed.

Students studying on this course must firstly complete successfully a Certificate in Applied Film Making & Television Production Course. Then during the additional 6 weeks study option students are able to develop a screen production concept of their own which could include, but is not limited to, a TV show pilot, documentary, music video or a short film.
Students are given access to NZFA production facilities and equipment resources during the development and production of their concept as well as a hand's on mentoring program under the guidance of industry based tutors which ensure that students stay on track.
The NZ Film Academy also helps to secure air time on local television for the screening of successfully completed productions.
