. Why should I attend one of your courses?

Whether or not you choose to pursue a career in the film industry, our courses give an experience that will broaden your horizons, enhance your future endeavors and most importantly allow you to make an informed decision about your career path


. I have no experience in this field. Is that okay? If so what course would be best for me?

Yes, the 12 week or 18 week Certificate in Applied Film Making and Television Production course and the 6 week Intensive Applied Film Making course are designed to cater for individuals with little or no filmmaking experience.


. What is the difference between the 18 week and 12 week Certificate in Applied Film Making and Television Production course?

The 12 week Applied Filmmaking and Television Production Course is an intensive version of the 18 week course with tighter dead lines and generally much longer days. Weekends and after hours become a valuable asset and in most cases a necessity to complete the course requirements to a satisfactory level.


. How hands-on are courses?

Extremely. Tutorials are based on practical production projects. You start shooting from day one.


. What do I require to apply for the 6 week Additional Skills Application Option?

You can study on this course once the have successfully completed a Certificate in Applied Film Making and Television Production Course.


. What does Number Dependent mean?

We run our two intensive courses only when there are enough applicants. Notification of course cancellation will be issued 14 days prior to the course start, however where ever possible management will advise students sooner.


. What happens if an intensive course is cancelled?

On cancellation applicants have the option to enter the 18 week certificate course. The 6 week intensive applicants get the option to enter the next following 6 week intensive course or the next first 9 weeks of the 18 week course. Written notification by applicant to NZFA required to implement this option.


. What do we shoot with?

You will shoot you films using Sony HDV & DV CAM Cameras.


. What do we edit our productions on?

Students will learn to edit on Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro workstations.


. Does the Academy provide financial aid?

The NZFA is a small private institution. There are currently no endowments or scholarship programs. However, NZ students can apply for student loans and allowances from Study Link for the 12 week and 18 week Film Making and Television Production course.


. Who owns the films students make at the NZFA?

Students are the sole owners of all the films they make during the course.
However, please note that the NZ Film Academy reserves the right to use copies of all or part of student(s) productions and associated development material in the promotion of student(s) and/or the NZFA. New Zealand Film Academy also reserves the right to use copies of all or part of student(s) productions and associated development material as a tutorial resource.
Any financial gain or reward from the promotion of student(s) work will be used at the discretion of New Zealand Film Academy, firstly to recover costs incurred for production and marketing of student(s) work.


. What is the admissions policy at the NZFA?

There is a rolling admissions policy for all courses. Applications are accepted throughout the year until the courses are filled. We recommend early application to guarantee a place in the course of your choice.


. What is the minimum age requirement?

While there is no age restriction, the New Zealand Film Academy's courses are intensive, and demand maturity, commitment and dedication, students under the age of 18 will be required to supply parental or guardian constant.


. What do I get at the end of the course?

Most importantly you receive a show reel of all the productions completed on your intake. Students who successfully complete either the 12 week or 18 week course will be awarded a NZQA Level 4 Certificate in Applied Film Making and Television Production. On the successful completion of any 6 week study program options a completion certificate is granted.


. What is the policy for overseas students?

The Academy welcomes students from all over the world. The diverse background of the Film Academy's students creates a rich multicultural smelting pot of ideas and viewpoints.


. What is the average day like?

Students should expect to be busy 5 days a week. Tutorial class days are usually 9.30 to 4.00pm, however production days are typically longer and weekends may be included. Additional time will be spent during some evenings for editing and additional lectures.
